The Transportation Committee is committed to helping the people in Anacortes and Skagit County reduce carbon emissions by:
- Encouraging the use of public transportation, walking, and riding bicycles for daily commuting.
- Instructing businesses and households in practices that reduce the production of transportation related carbon emissions.
- Educating the public about alternatives to gasoline and diesel engines.
- Creating networks between the people; and city, county, and state agencies that facilitate opportunities and incentives to achieve the above stated goals.
Projects:
- Bike Racks in downtown Anacortes
- Bike Lanes and crosswalks in downtown Anacortes
- Bike corridors for cross island transportation (maybe create a link to a map showing main bike arterials)
- No Idling /Clean Air signs for drive-thru areas: currently coordinating with NW Clean Air and the Anacortes School District to participate in the NWCA Schools program
- Coordinating with local business that offer drive-thru service, to publicly post info regarding carbon emission reduction achieved when NOT idling.
- Promoting Public Transportation through clearly marked bus stops i.e., the Senior Center and Hospital
- Auto Magic - A carpool incentive program in collaboration with the City of Anacortes
