Earth Day 2007Skagit Beat the Heat is a non-partisan, grassroots group of Skagit County citizens working to slow global warming and to prepare our community to thrive in a time of climate and energy uncertainty.

We accept the scientific consensus on climate change, the reality of humanity’s role in our warming world, and the need to transition off fossil fuels as soon as possible.  We believe it is our moral obligation to act with urgency on behalf of ourselves, future generations, and all living beings.

In support of this mission, we will:

1. Educate ourselves and our community about the effects of global warming and diminishing energy reserves, and the best ways to mitigate those effects.

2. Prepare ourselves and our community to make a positive transition to a post-fossil-fuel age through reducing energy demand, maximizing energy efficiency, supporting renewable energy, and fostering the local production of food, energy and goods.
